Sisanda Magala’s superb five-wicket haul helped clip Dolphins’ wings despite the fiftes from David Miller and Andile Phehlukwayo, after which, Gihahn Cloete (55) and JJ Smuts (42 not out) led a successful run-chase in a lightning and rain-hit fixture to move to the top of the points table.

Dolphins’ horrible start was salvaged by a 104-run stand between the two half-centurions. But once Miller fell in the 40th over, a mini-procession ensued. Phehlukwayo followed his national side teammate back to the pavilion just 10 balls later, and the lower-order just couldn’t consolidate thereafter. There were small contributions, but none solid enough to take the Dolphins to at least a 250-plus total. Miller’s wicket – perhaps the turning point of Dolphins’ innings – was the first of Sisanda Magala’s five wickets as he wrapped up the tail quickly.

Matthew Breetzke fell early in chase but a partnership between Cloete and Smuts left Dolphins with a lot of work on the field. The pair took their side to 90 for 1 in 20.5 overs when lightning and rain stopped play. When they eventually resumed, Warriors was handed a revised target of 152 in 31 overs. The break put the brakes on the little momentum that was built during the second-wicket partnership as Cloete fell right after resumption for a 76-ball 55. Smuts however didn’t let that setback hamper the big picture as he and Lesiba Ngoepe carried the team past the finishing line.

Brief Scores: Dolphins 244 in 49.2 overs (David Miller 68, Andile Phehlukwayo 68; Sisanda Magala 5-59) beat Warriors 152/2 in 28 overs (Gihahn Cloete 55; JJ Smuts 42*) by 8 wickets (DLS Method)
