Prelude – The Big Final!

England have reached three World Cup finals so far and lost all three. That bizarre reverse sweep by Mike Gatting, when he was batting in his zone in the 1987 World Cup final, would still rankle the English fans. In the 1992 World Cup, England’s hopes were pinged on one certain Allan Lamb – renowned for scripting jailbreaks. However, Akram had other ideas. In 1979, West Indies were too strong for the home side.

So, can this explosive England side break the duck and hoist the glittering World Cup trophy? As Channel 4 agreed to a deal with rights-holders Sky to show the final free-to-air, this is a chance for Morgan, Roy, Root, Archer, Buttler, Stokes, Bairstow and Co. to inspire young kids to take up the game.

What about the plucky New Zealand side? Very few expected New Zealand to upset the apple-cart and overcome India in the semifinal. However, in a tense contest, Williamson, Taylor, Henry and Co. rose to the occasion to surprise India. Can they do it once more under the shrewd leadership of Williamson and seal their maiden World Cup title?

So, who will come out on top? Roy and Bairstow or Boult and Co? Guptill, Williamson and Taylor or Woakes and Archer? There is also the fascinating battle between Root and Williamson. Get ready for what could be a thriller at the hallowed turf of Lord’s.
