Akila Dananjaya has been ruled out of the third and final Test of the ongoing series against England. The Sri Lanka spinner has to undergo an official bowling action assessment in Brisbane after being reported for suspect action during the series opener in Galle.
Dananjaya is required to undergo testing within the next 14 days of being reported. However, as per the ICC regulations, the reported bowler is permitted to continue bowling in international cricket until the results of the tests are known. Dananjaya consequently played the second Test and also registered his career-best figures of 6 for 115 in England’s second innings.
“Unfortunately he’s not available, because he has to go and do the testing within 14 days. He’s going to Brisbane on the 20th or something, to do the test on the 23rd, so he’s not available,” Sri Lanka head coach Chandika Hathurusingha told media at the conclusion of the second Test in Pallekele.
England have already wrapped up the three-match series by winning the first two games. This was England’s first series victory in Sri Lanka in 17 years. The third dead-rubber Test starts at SSC Colombo on November 23.
